Technical Program Finalization Workshop of Simulation Modelling institutes under Strategic Research component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) was held on 3rd September, 2020 through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC).

 

NICRA Expert Committee members viz., Dr B Venkateswarlu, Former VC, VNMKV and Dr UC Mohanty, Professor, IIT, Bhubaneswar, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA, Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA, CRIDA, Principal Investigators, Scientists, Research Associates & Senior Research Fellows from 9 Simulation Modelling institutes viz., IARI, IISS, IIT-Chennai, CRIDA, CIBA, CMFRI, IIHR, IIFSR & ICAR RC-NEH participated. 

 

Dr G Ravindra Chary welcomed the participants and suggested to avoid duplication of activities of institute and NICRA. Dr S Bhaskar opined that sector-wise models and products are expected on yearly basis from this group. He further advised to submit the revised project proposal with certificate from Director that it is unique work under NICRA and no duplication in other projects. Dr UC Mohanty suggested that modelling results should go to field and field results should come to modelling work and interaction from both sides is needed and he also suggested that short-term climate change strategies are needed and should be shared with respective State Governments.  Dr B Venkateswarlu opined that modelling outputs should lead to policy.

Technical Program Finalization Workshop of Horticulture & Crop Protection institutes under Strategic Research component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) was held on 1st September, 2020 through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC).

 

NICRA Expert Committee members viz., Dr NK Krishna Kumar, Former DDG (Horticultural Science), ICAR & Former Coordinator Biodiversity International, New Delhi and Dr SK Pandey, Former Director, ICAR-CPRI, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA, Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA, CRIDA, Principal Investigators, Scientists, Research Associates & Senior Research Fellows from 7 partner institutes viz., IIHR, IIVR, IISR, CAZRI, NCIPM, CRIDA & IIHR participated. 

 

Dr G Ravindra Chary welcomed the participants and desired that technologies in this sector are highly needed to address the impact of climate change. He further opined that collaboration between institutes for developing pest and disease forewarning system. Dr S Bhaskar suggested to avoid the overlapping of institute activities with NICRA work and to divide the objectives into short term, mid-term and long-term. He further suggested to address the food security in relation to climate change. Dr SK Pandey opined to release the tomato lines resistant to heat stress developed so far for large scale cultivation and also suggested to create root stock bank at IIHR/IIVR. Dr NK Krishna Kumar advised to study the changing pest patterns, their impact on crop and to study the impact of climate change on all field and horticultural crops.

Technical Program Finalization Workshop of Fisheries institutes under Strategic Research component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) was held on 20August, 2020 through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC).

 

Dr AG Ponniah, NICRA Expert Committee member, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA, Dr A Gopalakrishnan, Director, CMFRI, Dr Debajit Sarma, Director, DCFR, Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA, CRIDA, Principal Investigators, Scientists, Research Associates & Senior Research Fellows from 4 Fisheries institutes (CMFRI, CIFRI, CIBA and DCFR) participated in the video conferencing. 

 

Dr G Ravindra Chary welcomed the participants and suggested to work on the effect of sea weed and sea grass on field crops. Dr S Bhaskar highlighted the products of marine origin and appreciated the outcomes from the group. He further suggested to translate outputs into outcomes in next phase. Dr AG Ponniah appreciating the progress advised to include breeding activities in relation to climate change.

Technical Program Finalization Workshop of Natural Resource Management (NRM) & Agricultural Engineering (AE) institutes under Strategic Research component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) was held on 17 August, 2020 through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC).

 

NICRA Expert Committee members viz., Dr V Praveen Rao, VC, PJTSAU, Dr B Venkateswarlu, Former VC, VNMKV and Dr CL Acharya, Former Director, ICAR-IISS, Dr KK Singh, ADG (AE), ICAR, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA, Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA, CRIDA, Principal Investigators, Scientists, Research Associates & Senior Research Fellows from 9 NRM & AE institutes (CIAE, CRIDA, ICAR-RC-NEH, IIFSR, NRRI, CAZRI, CSSRI, IISS and IARI) participated in the video conferencing. 

 

Dr G Ravindra Chary welcomed the participants and desired that technologies should be prioritized for each cropping system. Dr S Bhaskar suggested to avoid the overlapping of objectives between institutes and to prepare risk assessment maps for arid and NEH regions. Dr V Praveen Rao opined to do big data analytics, interoperability of data and to share the standard coefficients developed from experiments to State Agriculture Universities. He further suggested to communicate the success stories to the Principal Secretaries of State Agriculture Departments. Dr B Venkateswarlu advised to draw some outputs for policy at national and state level and to avoid duplication of activities with the institute mandate. Dr CL Acharya advised to find out technologies for rice straw management and for improving nutrient use efficiency.

Technical Program Finalization Workshop of Animal Sciences institutes under Strategic Research component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) was held on 12 August, 2020 through video conferencing under the chairmanship of Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC).

 

Dr RC Upadhyay, NICRA Expert Committee member, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA, Dr Raghavendra Bhatta, Director, NIANP, Dr BK Kandpal, Director, ICAR RC-NEH, Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA, CRIDA, Principal Investigators, Scientists, Research Associates & Senior Research Fellows from 7 Animal Science institutes (NIANP, IVRI, NDRI, ICAR RC-NEH, NIVEDI, CAZRI& CRIDA) participated in the video conferencing. 

 

Dr G Ravindra Chary welcomed the participants and highlightedimportance of livestock sector in GHG emissions.Dr SBhaskar suggested to follow the acceptable methodologies for GHG emissions in livestock. He further suggested to work on issues of fertility rate and collaboration of different institutes in Animal Sciences.Dr RC Upadhyayadvised to include social scientist in livestock sector and redesign the objectives of institutes in relation to climate change. Dr Raghavendra Bhatta emphasized that NIANP has best state-of-art facilities for animal science in Asia and has thermo neutral zone monitoring which is unique. Dr BK Kandpalhighlighted the measures for making animal system resilient in North Eastern region to climate change.
