Visit of Zonal Monitoring Committee to KVKs-Serchhip and Lunglei of ATARI-Barapani (Zone-VII)

     

The Zonal Monitoring Committee visited KVK Serchhip, Mizoram during 21-23rd January, 2019 to review the activities undertaken as a part of NICRA program. The team consisted of Prof. H.K. Senapati, Former Dean, OUAT, Bhubaneswar as Chairman of the committee, Dr. A.K. Singha, Principal Scientist, ICAR-ATARI, zone VII as Vice-Chairman and Dr. B.K. Kandpal. Joint Director, ICAR Tripura Centre as member. The committee interacted with KVK personnel/staff and visited the demonstration sites of poultry unit, processing unit, NRM intervention sites, protected cultivation of vegetables, water harvesting unit, custom hiring centre, weather station, seed bank and interacted with the farmers. The committee suggested demonstrating zero till seed drill in rice fallows particularly in the valleys instead of broadcasting, which is a common practice. The committee recommended to focus on in -situ moisture conservation, introduction of pulse crops along the bund and introduction of improved poultry breeds, viz., vanaraja and suggested promotion of low cost technologies for KVK- Lunglei in the NICRA clusters and the adjacent villages.
