Annual NICRA Review Workshop of AICRPDA and AICRPAM organized


The Annual NICRA Review Workshop of All India Coordinated Research Project for Dryland Agriculture (AICRPDA) and All India Coordinated Research Project on Agrometeorology (AICRPAM) was organized at ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad during 26-28 May, 2019 with the main objective to critically review the progress at centres and finalize technical programme for 2019-20. Vittal, Former Director, ICAR-NIAM, Dr. Y.S. Ramakrishna, Former Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Dr. G. Ravindra Chary, Director (Acting), ICAR-CRIDA & Project Coordinator (AICRPDA), Dr. B.V. Ramana Rao, Former PC, AICRPAM, Dr. G.G.S.N. Rao, Former PC, AICRPAM, Dr. V.U.M. Rao, Former PC, AICRPAM, Dr. G. Subba Reddy, Former PC, AICRPDA, scientists from PC Units, AICRPDA & AICRPAM, ICAR-CRIDA, 23 AICRPDA centres and 25 AICRPAM centres participated in the workshop.



Dr Bhaskar in his address highlighted the importance of CRIDA and the two AICRPs (AICRPDA and AICRPAM) in ICAR and their role in improving the livelihoods of dryland farmers through farmers’ friendly interventions and agromet advisory services. He also highlighted the need for implementation of real-time contingency plans (RTCPs) across 151 cluster villages to cope with weather aberrations. Dr. G. Ravindra Chary emphasized the need to upscale the RTCPs to cope with weather aberrations. He also informed the house that Micro-level Agromet Advisory Services of AICRPAM under NICRA component will be taken up by IMD for operationalization through District Agro-met Units (DAMUs) in 630 districts of the country. Dr. Srinivasa Rao also highlighted the importance of RTCP implementation to cope with weather aberrations. Drs. Ramana Rao, Ramakrishna, Vittal, and Venkateswarlu briefed about various aspects of NICRA program, its inception, formulation of various projects, implementation and way forward. They also urged the scientists of AICRPDA and AICRPAM to document success stories, impact of various interventions in enhancing agricultural productivity during events of different weather aberrations, and bring out policy briefs. Earlier, Dr. P. Vijaya Kumar, Project Coordinator, AICRPAM welcomed the participants. On the occasion, 13 publications and two mobile apps on agromet advisory services were released.

This was followed by concurrent sessions on review of progress of research and finalization of NICRA technical programme of both AICRPDA and AICRPAM. The participants also visited Climate Research Facilities at Hayathnagar Research Farm (HRF) of the institute.
