Second Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on 'Vulnerability and Risk of Agriculture to Climate Change and Variability'

– A District Level Assessment’ organized

        

The Second Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on ‘Vulnerability and Risk of Agriculture to Climate Change and Variability – A District Level Assessment’ was organised by NRM Division, ICAR and ICAR-CRIDA on 19th August, 2019 at NASC Complex, ICAR, New Delhi.

 

Dr K Alagusundaram, DDG (NRM & AE), Dr AK Singh, DDG (Agril. Extension), Dr AK Singh, DDG (CS& HS),  Dr SK Chaudhari, ADG (SWC), Dr S Bhaskar, ADG (AAF&CC), Dr Randhir Singh, ADG (Extension),  Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.), CRIDA,  representatives/scientists from various organisations and Ministries viz., IFPRI, NIDM, IMD, NIRD, NRAA, Senior officers from Division of NRM, ICAR, scientists from ICAR-CRIDA participated.  Dr NH Ravindranath, Professor (Retd.), IISC, Bengaluru and Mr. Ravindra from WASSAN, Secunderabad provided expert opinions.

 

Dr K Alagusundaram in his remarks suggested to emphasize on the socio-economic aspects of different stakeholders and referred to the recent natural calamities in the country. Dr A K Singh, DDG (Extension) appreciated the work on vulnerability and highlighted the importance of this study in policy making. Dr AK Singh, DDG (CS & HS) opined to consider cropping system perspective and consider extreme weather events.  Dr S Bhaskar highlighted the need for vulnerability document and its utility with different stakeholders. Dr SK Chaudhari highlighted on the agro ecosystem vulnerability on agriculture production.

 

Earlier, Dr G Ravindra Chary, Director (Actg.) in his welcome address elaborated on the genesis of this study and on the efforts made in bringing the changes to the revised document.

 

A detailed presentation on the revised vulnerability assessment was made by Dr CA Rama Rao and Dr BMK Raju from CRIDA, Hyderabad.  Several points emerged out the discussions for further improvement of the Vulnerability Atlas document.

The meeting ended with vote of thanks to the chair by Dr M Prabhakar, PI, NICRA.
