Training Program on Decision Support System for Agro-Technology Transfer (DSSAT) Under National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture

   

A Training Programme on “Decision Support System for Agro-Technology Transfer (DSSAT)” is being organized jointly by University of Florida and AICRP on Agrometeorology at CRIDA, Hyderabad during 13-17 February 2012. The program was conducted as a capacity building measure under NICRA. The resource persons for this program are Dr. James W. Jones, Professor, Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department and Dr. Kenneth J. Boote, Professor, Crop Physiology, Agronomy Department of University of Florida. A total of 30 participants from 19 states including Scientists/Professors from different ICAR institutes, State Agricultural Universities are attending. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. A.K. Singh, DDG (NRM), ICAR and  Dr. B. Venkateswarlu, Director, CRIDA, Hyderabad elicited on the necessity of such programs in imparting crop modelling skills to the scientists who have to come up with solutions to the aberrant weather conditions that are inflicting Indian agriculture.

 

This course is tailored for AICRPAM and ICAR scientists working in NICRA project and to be used as decision support systems in the issue of agro advisories. It covers overview of DSSAT software, Modelling climate effects and potential yields, Simulating soil water dynamics and crop responses, Analysis of crop water requirements and water productivity, Simulating soil N and Carbon dynamics and crop responses to N, Data requirements for adapting crop models and analysis. Participants are being given hands on training covering the afore mentioned topics.
